Western's Educational Assistance Plan (EA)
Western encourages all employees to continually develop their skills and offers many development opportunities and resources for you to explore. Western Continuing Studies offers more than 150 courses and 22 advanced certificates funded for eligible Western employees.
Advanced Funded Courses for Western Employees
To help meet your professional educational goals and make learning more convenient, Western Human Resources has pre-approved all professional development courses offered at Western Continuing Studies.
More than 150 courses and 22 certificates are now advanced funded for eligible Western employees.
This means you will not have to personally provide payment and seek reimbursement for all professional development courses, workshops or spark sessions offered by Western Continuing Studies.
Steps
SELECT A COURSE
That meets your learning goals. Consider the knowledge and skills you wish to develop to meet your work goals and to advance your career at Western.
REGISTER
Select Register Now and proceed to checkout. Click Western Employee under fee options to pay using Educational Assistance. You are responsible for tracking and ensuring sufficient funds cover the course fees.
COMPLETE YOUR COURSE
You must meet the course requirements to complete a course. If you do not meet the requirements, you must reimburse Western Continuing Studies for the full cost of the course within 30 days.
Education Assistance
PMA and UWOSA RF (and Sessional) employees only eligible
Most courses through Western (undergrad, WTS, Continuing Studies) are eligible for advance funding

If unsure of coverage/reimbursement, employee submits request to central HR to confirm in EA can be used for a specific course www.uwo.ca/hr/form_doc/benefits/form/eaform.pdf
Reimbursement through payroll upon successful completion of course and submission of form
Courses must be related to career goals at Western or relevant to the role as a general rule for reimbursement – advance approval by Central HR is recommended for all courses to ensure employee can receive reimbursement upon completion
Unused amounts do not roll over to future years, use it or lose it each year
Expectation to take courses outside of normal business hours, but if not possible, employee needs approval from supervisor/delegate and work out a plan to make up the time

If western or supervisor requires or asks employee to complete a specific course or training, it does not go through EAP and unit would pay for course fees and time away to complete the course
